Regional Environmental Grant

In this school year, we began working on a regional environmental grant, which includes the organization of the Earth Day, bare footpath, school sowing, songbird feeding, mushroom growing, magnolia planting for the 30th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution, willow planting and lesser-known fruit of woody plants.

Currently we have completed willow, where pupils of 6th grade planted different types of willows such as Japanese tricolour, willow with pinkish “cats”, willow with yellow-green leaves or species, which have differently coloured bark, which is especially after leaf fall. Altogether we have planted 11 species of this very interesting tree species. Willow will become a nice part of our extensive school campus, but also an example of how variable the genus of a certain plant can be.

In another part of the school campus, we planted less well-known fruit trees, such as Kamchatka honeysuckle, which is incorrectly called Kamchatka blueberries for fruits, which remind them a little. This attractive species is interesting because it ripens here, as the first fruit ever.

We have also enriched the range of cultivated plants with sea buckthorns, Canadian toadstools, frost-resistant figs, gooseberries and vines. Pupils of 9th C planted quince and black mulberries.
