Step by step of Karel Hynek Mácha

The beautiful May weather was used by the students of the eighth-grade to a traditional excursion to the nearby Doks to follow the footsteps of our romantic poet Karel Hynek Mácha. All of them, in the engaging story of Mrs. Renata Mauser, the director of the Town Library, listened to interesting details from the poet’s life, made an idea of Macha’s style, dress style, public behaviour, and interests. No less interesting was the information about Mácha’s relationship with women, especially Eleonora Šomková, whom he should also marry. Exactly on the wedding day, however, the poet’s funeral took place instead of wedding festivity. While travelling around the Great Pond, known as Mácha Lake, the pupils learned about the famous Maya, especially about the real masterpieces of two robbers for the figure of William. It has to be remarked that even the story of torture is not invented, but it is based on actual events that have come near Doks. The entire journey was completed at the K. Mácha Museum, where the students had the opportunity to see some of the Czech and foreign-language editions of the poet’s most famous work. They found a small copy of May that he had to buy a magnifying glass for his reading. The acquired knowledge from the poet’s life as well as the pupils will be used not only in literary education, but also in high school.
